Stone Soup Corvallis Inc.
We are a non-profit, all-volunteer program in Corvallis, Oregon providing a full meal each day to any person in need.
In 1982 a small group of parishioners from St. Mary's Catholic Church started serving a free weekly Wednesday lunch. Under the auspices of St. Mary's, Stone Soup became a member agency of Linn-Benton Food Share. By 1997, community volunteers were also serving Monday and Thursday suppers and Friday lunch. Westminster House added Tuesday supper, and Beit Am took on one Thursday supper each month and supported Christmas dinner each year. In 1995, First Christian Church became the second full meal site, serving Saturday breakfast and Sunday dinner as well as hosting Tuesday supper.
In 2013-14, in cooperation with our church partners, we evolved into an independent public benefit non-profit corporation, Stone Soup Corvallis, Inc. We have received 501c3 tax-exampt status from the IRS; donations to Stone Soup Corvallis Inc are tax-deductible. Our meal schedule has not changed, and we continue to use two meal sites. And we continue to rely exclusively on volunteers.
Each year, at two sites, Stone Soup Corvallis, Inc:
- Serves more than 37,000 meals (average cost/meal: 95 cents)
- Over 175 volunteers contribute more than 25,000 volunteer hours
This would not be possible without the continuing support of our two host churches in Corvallis, Oregon: St. Mary's Catholic Church and First Christian Church, who both provide us with kitchen and dining facilities including utilities, all free of charge, as well as many volunteers. THANK YOU!
It would also not be possible without the continued participation of other churches and faith communities in Corvallis, Oregon, particularly Westminster House, First Presbyterian Church, First Methodist Church, First Congregational Church and Beit Am. Thank you all!
Stone Soup Corvallis Inc. is governed by a Board of Directors which presently has seven members: President Adriana Huyer, Vice-President Ann Smart, Treasurer Janet Garfunkel, Secretary Bruce Weber, Directors Beth Crawford, Ed Curtin, and Susan Schulz.
